WOSonOS 2013 St. Petersburg Florida - Virtual Space: menu
A "tapas menu" of virtual choices—we're excited to present you with a number of ways to play virtually with WOSonOS. Everything is optional, and is designed to enhance the in-person experience as well as to help connect people who want to join from a distance. We offer these choices in the spirit of an experiment, with the intention of learning from what doesn't work as well as from what does.
Google Docs Home—Google Drive is the place for documents and information to help coordinate our virtual proceedings/experiments. Click here to access the WOSonOS2013 folder where all key documents and subfolders are contained. Newsroom—If onsite participants choose to, they can use Google docs to record session notes in real time. This allows for collaborative note taking and eliminates the need to transfer notes to the News Room once the session is complete. It also allows offsite participants to engage in sessions while they are underway and to access the Evening News. Also, if you choose to initiate a virtual session (see below) you can post your notes to the News Room just like those who are gathered in person, and your session can be included in the final WOSonOS2013 report. Click here to access the News Room folder. Twitter—Tweeters are invited to use #WOSonOS2013 for sending and tracking tweet updates before, during, and after the WOSonOS 2013. Capture key moments and share them as appropriate with the world via Twitter. At the end of each day, we'll aggregate the tweets with Storify to help tell our stories about WOSonOS in Florida.
Skype Buddies—Would you like to join in the WOSonOS2013 live via Skype, Google Hangouts, etc? Some of the in-person participants are willing to connect with you via thier iPads, laptops, etc and bring you directly into the room with them! We have created a Skype Buddies Bulletin Board so people on site can pair up with people off-site who want to try this out. Users are responsible for contacting potential buddies to work out details on exactly when and how they will connect, test their connections, etc.
Virtual Sessions in Parallel— We invite you to experiment with creating some purely virtual sessions as part of our WOSonOS2013 conversation. You can use this Virtual OST Marketplace Google doc to post details for a session you wish to initiate or to let hosts know that you are considering joining them. Sessions might be conducted using teleconferencing, video conferencing or text only. It's up to the initiator to make those arrangements using whatever platform they choose. With so many options available now for virtual conversation, both free and at fairly low cost, it's easy to convene small groups. And more and more of us have the skills to manage large virtual groups as well. Here's a playground in which we can learn together.
